The Viking Press is the student newspaper of Kinston High School in Kinston, N.C.
We publish monthly as a public forum during the academic year and have a circulation of 1,200, including approximately 900 students and 100 staff members in addition to rack sales at two locations in the city.
The paper is published entirely by the student staff members. The journalism staff researches and writes all news stories, takes all photos and makes all design decisions. Additionally, students are responsible for all advertising in the newspaper, which fully funds the publication.
The Viking Press is currently in its third year of publication after a hiatus of several years. Its current adviser is Michael Moon, a former sports editor for The Kenly (N.C.) News and a current stringer for The (Kinston) Free Press. The publication has earned nearly 40 North Carolina press awards through the N.C. Press Club and N.C. Scholastic Media Association.
The Viking Press is a member of the North Carolina Scholastic Press Association and also subscribes to the ASNE McClatchy Tribune Campus Wire Service.
