The Viking Press is the student newspaper of Kinston High School in Kinston, N.C.
We publish monthly as a public forum during the academic year and have a circulation of 1,200, including approximately 900 students and 100 staff members in addition to a public rack located at the front office of the school.
The paper is published entirely by the student staff members. The journalism staff researches and writes all news stories, takes all photos and makes all design decisions. Additionally, students are responsible for all advertising in the newspaper, which fully funds the publication.
The Viking Press is continuing a long run of successes from previous years. In 2013, The Viking Press was recognized with the Tar Heel Award. Its current adviser is Savannah Sharp, an English teacher at Kinston High School. The publication has earned nearly 40 North Carolina press awards through the N.C. Press Club and N.C. Scholastic Media Association.
The Viking Press is a member of the North Carolina Scholastic Press Association. This site is a member of the Intercollegiate Online News Network.
